Dr Navina Evans:

Chief Workforce, Training and Education Officer NHSE April 2023 During the merger of HEE and NHSE Navina took on the dual role of Chief Executive of Health Education England and Chief Workforce Officer of NHSE July 22- April 23 Dr Navina Evans was HEE CEO from October 2020 to April 2023, HEE is part of the NHS, and work with partners to plan, recruit, educate and train the health workforce. Previously Chief Executive of East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) from 2016 to October 2020 She has over twenty years of clinical experience in psychiatry, medicine and paediatrics and previously held the positions of Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Operations. Navina has worked as the Clinical Director for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at ELFT. She has also been involved in medical education and provided pastoral care to medical students. Navina acts as a trustee for Think Ahead Organisation which develops training programmes for mental health social work. She was awarded an honorary fellowship by the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2020. She is a senior fellow at the Institute of Healthcare Improvement. Navina uses her voice in support of staff wellbeing and coproduction with patients, advocating for the best possible quality of life and creating a culture of enjoying work for staff. She was awarded the Commander of the British Empire in the 2020 New Year’s Honours List for services to NHS Leadership and the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community.

Professor Adrian Brooke is Medical Director for Workforce Alignment in the Workforce, Training and Education Directorate of NHS England and Honorary Professor at the University of Leicester Medical School He was previously Postgraduate Dean for HEE East Midlands after roles there as Deputy Postgraduate Dean and Head of School for Paediatrics. He started his career as a Paediatrician, training across the North-West and Midlands. Currently as Medical Director for workforce alignment, he chairs the workforce group on the cardiovascular, respiratory and stroke strand of the NHS Long Term Plan, chairs the Distribution of Medical Training Programme Board, the Medical and Dental Recruitment Selection Programme Board and the Strategic Workforce and Recruitment group..

Dr Aidan Fowler is the National Director of Patient Safety in England and a Deputy Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health and Social Care. Since March 2020 he has been on secondment to the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty.  Previous roles have included Director of NHS Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and Director of the 1000 Lives Improvement Service for NHS Wales, with responsibility for quality improvement and patient safety across the Welsh NHS  Aidan’s surgical training was in the South West of England. He graduated in medicine from University College London.

Dr Ginny Bowbrick is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. She trained in General and Vascular Surgery in the Southeast and London prior to being appointed as a Consultant in 2005. She has been involved in Medical Education from the start of her consultant career when she joined the SE Thames General Surgery Specialty Training Committee of which she later became the Training Programme Director. As a Liaison Member of the Vascular Surgery Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC), she was the ST3 National Selection Lead in 2021 prior to becoming Chair of the Vascular Surgery SAC later that year. She also became the Head of School of Surgery for Kent, Surrey and Sussex in 2021 and a Clinical Advisor to the Medical Workforce Alignment Programme, NHSE WTE in 2022. She has been an MRCS examiner since 2016 and was elected to Royal College of Surgeons of England Council in 2023.

Dr Nisha Nathwani is a Paediatric consultant with special interest in Diabetes and Endocrinology and has been based at the Bedfordshire hospitals for nearly 20yrs. She has a keen Interest in Leadership and Medical Education. Currently working within the Quality team as Assistant Director, the SLT as lead DME and working with the two deputies at the Bedfordshire hospitals and the cross-site Med Ed teams. I also hold the post of clinical advisors for the National Distribution and Expansion team and am soon to take up my post of Patch Dean for BLMK.

Dr Jack Haywood is a Public Health Specialty Registrar currently based at the UK Health Security Agency. He also has a role at the NHS England Global Unit as Public Health Clinical Advisor for multilateral and bilateral workforce and health system strengthening projects. Jack was the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow at NHS England Workforce Training and Education Directorate in 2022/23. He completed his medical studies at King’s College London in 2016, and also has a BSc in Management from Imperial College London. He completed his Academic Foundation Training in Medical Education in 2019 when he took up and completed a MSc in Global Health Policy from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Dr Matthew Clarke is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in diagnostic neuropathology based at UCLH, London/Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). He completed a PhD in the molecular pathology of infant gliomas at the ICR. Matthew was Chair of the RCPath Trainees’ Advisory Committee from 2018-2023. He is the current Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, Trainee Doctors’ Group (ATDG). Matthew is actively involved in different pathology societies, including being ‘Deputy Meetings Secretary’ of the BDIAP and Editor of ‘ACP news’ and has been the recipient of awards for public engagement, research, science communication. He featured in the Pathology Power List 2021.
