Disability
Disability is another of the 9 protected characteristics under the Equality Act. It is unlawful to discriminate against anyone because of a disability.
- The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism was launched in 2022. The Health and Care Act introduced a requirement that regulated service providers ensure their staff receive training on learning disability and autism which is appropriate to the person’s role. The first part of the training is an e-learning package which should be completed by all health and social care staff.
- The RPS have resources on disability.
- The learning disability charity MENCAP have a ‘Treat me well’ campaign which aims to transform how the NHS treats people with a learning disability in hospital.
- Additionally, MENCAP led a project to highlight and address issues affecting disabled people and their families within pharmaceutical services. This includes resources for pharmacists.
