My Career Journey...

I am a third-year mental health nursing student.

How I got here...

I came into my course straight from completing my A-levels. I am the youngest student on my course, #scary!

I wanted to work in mental health from a young age, but I never knew it would be nursing. It wasn’t until my grandad was ill and I saw how nurses treated him that I decided to investigate nursing and saw mental health nursing, it was the perfect combination really.

My future ambitions...

My future ambitions are to firstly finish up my mental health nursing course, and then I’d love to work as a forensic mental health nurse or in children’s mental health service (CAHMS). I would also love to do a masters, but I will see where the life takes me!

About me:

What I do with my spare time...

In my spare time, I really enjoy baking. I started in lockdown and then turned it into a business but it’s still my biggest hobby! Otherwise, I enjoy going to the gym, being with my friends, going to concerts and eating lots of good food (yum).

My favourite things to watch...

My favourite series now is Greys Anatomy, but I also really enjoy Stranger Things. My favourite film is the Breakfast Club, unless we are talking about marvel then Infinity War or Dr Strange.

Feel good song...

Well, this changes every month, right now I would say Music For A Sushi Restaurant by Harry Styles but I do love Michael Jackson (can’t choose one song because they are all amazing)!

Pets...

I have one dog! She’s a super cute (not bias), German Shepard called Indy, but she lives at home with mum.

My passions...

A major passion of mine is advocating for equality in the BAME, LQBTQ+ and social communities. I’ve led my own protests back at home for the BLM community.

Looking after my mental health...

As a student nurse you’re constantly on the go and caring for others but recently I’ve taken up going to the gym which helps to look after my mental wellbeing. I also like self-care in the form of skin care and bubble baths. I take breaks when I feel like my body needs one too, normally I chill in my flat but other times I’ll take myself on a self-date and eat food!
