NHS physiological scientists - addressing the current and future challenges

NHS physiological scientists are a small but important part of the NHS workforce. Following the pandemic impact, addressing the current and future challenges of this workforce is vital to support recovery to meet deferred and latent demand.

HEE in the Midlands commissioned the report below to identify both current and future demand. Predicted regional growth of 275fte from a baseline of c1200 is required by 2026/27 and the report recommends key actions as a workforce enabler. HEE will continue to work with regional partners, including the region’s Chief Scientists and ICSs, to deliver on the action plan.
