HEE’s Dental Foundation Training Programme Director wins prestigious Award

Congratulations to Simon Hearnshaw MFGDP(UK) MCGDent, Dental Foundation Training Programme Director in Yorkshire who has been awarded The Dean’s Award 2021 by The Faculty of General Dental Practice UK (FGDP(UK)). The Award recognises people or organisations who share the Faculty’s commitment to promoting and improving oral health for all. Simon has been recognised for his remarkable achievements, including developing the In Practice Prevention programme in Yorkshire and the Humber, founding the National Community Water Fluoridation Network, which promotes water fluoridation throughout the UK, and his support for the Teeth Team charity.

His leadership was an integral factor in the dental profession’s response to the pandemic, and he instilled confidence and a sense of purpose, when it was lacking from other quarters. Simon’s decisive and well-informed approach to establishing Urgent Dental Care Centres in Yorkshire and Humber was used as a template across England, and his willingness to share this experience, knowledge and expertise enabled practices to re-open safely in June 2020.
