Successes for south west primary care training hubs

31 January 2023

The south west region’s primary care training hubs work to address local healthcare needs and have recently celebrated three national successes.

These include:

  1. Highest numbers of clinical apprenticeships, which is a reflection of the hard work put in by training hubs and HEE teams, including the advanced practice, pharmacy, apprenticeships and nursing and midwifery teams.
  2. The highest number of educators and supervisors attending educational training updates provided by training hubs. The notable share of this is from Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board (which was also the highest-ranking training hub across the whole country).
  3. The highest number of newly qualified health professionals who were supported to take up a role in primary care. This was a collaborative joint working between the training hubs, NHS England and the South West Leadership Academy.

There are seven training hubs in the south west. All of the 42 training hubs across England are required to submit information against 20 key performance indicators every six months. The most recent data submitted in September 2022, six months into their new contract, led to identifying the above three key successes for the region.

Aside from the successes, areas for development have also been recognised, including how to support equality, diversity and inclusion linked to their integrated care boards. For more information about training hubs in the region visit here.
