Supported Return to Training (SuppoRTT)
18 May 2023
The SuppoRTT programme exists to support all postgraduate doctors in training to return to training safely and confidently after a sustained period of absence (three months or more) away from NHS-type practice.
At any time, a proportion of postgraduate doctors in training may be taking approved time out of training for a wide variety of personal and professional reasons, such as further training, caring responsibilities, ill health, and research.
Through the SuppoRTT programme, you can receive:
- Enhanced supervision on return, including no unsupervised on-call for the first 10 working days
- Online and face-to-face refresher courses and simulation training
- Mentoring and professional coaching
- Online learning sources including virtual reality training
- Funding for other courses or training as required
Within our region the programme is managed through our regional hub and a network of SuppoRTT champions covering south west trusts and primary care. The champions act as local ambassadors targeting returning postgraduate doctors in training. The support hub manages this regional network: providing reports from the Trainee Information System (TIS), supervising funding for local projects and SuppoRTT fellows, chairing a monthly regional network meeting, and working with other regions and trusts to enhance the process.
- Adam Malin, Associate Dean for SuppoRTT across the south west
- Evette May, Team Leader, Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education
- Giovanna Edwards, Senior Business and Education Manager
- Abbie Nye, Regional SuppoRTT Fellow
