Local workforce action boards

To help ensure health and care services are built around the needs of people in North West London, local providers and commissioners are working together to produce Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STP).

These plans will show how local services will evolve and become sustainable over the next five years – ultimately delivering the Five Year Forward View vision of better health, better patient care and improved NHS efficiency. More information about STPs can be found at here.

We are supporting the workforce elements of the STPs through Local Workforce Action Boards (LWABs) which will ensure that decisions about the NHS and social care workforce take place in the right place at the right time with the right people. The LWABs are working closely with the health and social care providers and commissioners around the workforce elements of the STPs.

How we are supporting the North West London STP

Workforce is a key enabler to the delivery of the STP vision. In North West London, we are building on the strong foundations of supporting service change though the development and implementation of a robust workforce strategy to support the STP.

Our workforce strategy is being implemented through Health Education England (HEE) North West London and CCG Collaborative, Strategy and Transformation Team (S&T) working as a unified team under the leadership of HEE  within a newly designed governance structure (see below), which ensures service led decision making.

This CCG and HEE joint team is being guided by:

  1.  A workforce transformation advisory council, a vision setting group and vehicle to develop and test the strategy and work programme with senior stakeholders in a large forum, and,

  2. Our LWAB known as the Workforce Transformation Delivery Board that will then translate the vision into a workforce strategy and delivery plan for North West London, and will have responsibility for steering investment and resources.

The North West London LWAB that is rotationally co-chaired by Lizzie Smith, HEE's North West London team's Local Director; Ethie Kong, Chair, NHS Brent CCG and Judith Finlay, Executive Director, Ealing Council.
