Below is a list of locality led education and training programmes associated with Making Every Contact Count initiatives.


Making Every Contact Count describes brief opportunistic lifestyle advice aimed at ensuring that all health contacts include healthy lifestyle advice when appropriate. Many thanks to all of the public health teams and services that have agreed to share their work and support each other in developing an overview of MECC activity across the North West.

Halton Borough Council

What we deliver

 

  • Carry out IBA brief intervention training across Halton on alcohol, stop smoking, Cancer, Falls – not “badged” as MECC)

Knowsley Council

What we deliver

 

  • “2 minute health messages” are Knowsley’s brief intervention training programme
  • Classroom based, interactive session lasting 2½ hours delivered to a wide range of frontline staff across Knowsley
  • Accredited by the RSPH – RSPH logo can be used on all training and resources and provides validated quality assurance
Impact

 

  • Have trained all integrated provider services (500 staff)
  • Trained 300 Primary care based staff (GPs & Practice Nurses)

Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust

What we deliver

 

  • Liverpool Community Health Trust (LCH) launched a whole scale workforce development programme in 2012 that will build capacity and capability within the workforce to deliver health chats/lifestyle brief interventions alongside patient care
  • A two year project to provide all LCH staff and volunteers with training, aligned to the NHS Yorkshire and Humber Making Every Contact Count (MECC) Framework
  • The programme, known as Every Contact Counts, forms part of LCH’s public health strategy, which sets out the organisation’s vision to embed prevention as part of its service delivery, and to achieve its vision of ‘longer, healthier lives’ for the communities it serves

  • Sefton Council commission Liverpool Community Health Trust, to deliver a Healthy Workplace Network and Yorkshire’s model 4 tier approach to Making Every Contact Count

Plans for making Every Contact Count:

  • Train the Trainer programmes delivered across council prior to reorganisation – 8 trained people in council will deliver levels 1 & 2 (Yorkshire model) to Health settings champions (following refresher training)
  • Seen as a means of targeting community settings in deprived wards
  • Council workforce has access to the NW Making Every Contact count e-learning programme and also available to the Healthy Workplace Network
