Workforce planning cycle 2015/16

We provide an important forum for local health care economies to come together to ensure that we have a workforce with the right numbers, skills, values and behaviours to meet the needs of patients in the North West. In 2015/16 our narrative questions to secondary care provider organisations will focus on understanding the business processes within the organisation in relation to strategic direction workforce and education transformation, and also focussing on key workforce groups/themes.

During the 2015/2016 Workforce Planning Cycle, secondary care provider organisations will be supported to use the e-Workforce Planning Portal to submit their organisation’s workforce plans. While the process remains largely the same, the eWorkforce Planning Portal has been mandated for use across England and its innovative and flexible design was use by trusts in the Yorkshire and the Humber region during 2014/15. It is intended to improve process efficiency and information quality at a trust/organisation level and also at a regional level; the system functionality has been intended to promote workforce planning engagement across all secondary care organisations. 

In 2015/16 HENW will also:

  • Continue to collaborate and build on the partnership working with colleagues across wider system including professional networks, HEE hosted functions, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Clinical Senates and the North of England area teams.
  • Conduct a pilot data collections for Public Health Workforce with three Local Authorities, independent sector and hospice care provider data collections.
  • Extend the work to deliver general practice workforce investment, incorporating wider primary care workforce and community care, transformation of roles to developing a workforce responsive to changes in care, now and in the future.
  • Build upon the programmes underway to support Return To Practice, Pre-Degree Year of Care, Care Certificate, Widening Participation and the Veterans and Reservists agenda.
