High satisfaction levels for medical training in the south west

7 August 2017

Post graduate medical training delivered through HEE in the south west has among the highest satisfaction ratings with junior doctors and trainers.

The annual 2017 GMC National Training Survey found satisfaction levels were the second highest in England for junior doctors and first for trainers.

Individual training programmes also did well with 38% of programmes run the Peninsula office and 36% for Severn office being ranked within the top three in England.

Trainees in both Severn and Peninsula ranked the training provision in terms of adequate experience, educational governance, overall satisfaction, reporting systems, supportive environment and teamwork in the top five in England.

The survey also showed where improvements could be made with both Severn and Peninsula being ranked among the bottom of the table for study leave, regional teaching and local teaching.

Local director Derek Sprague said: “I am delighted both junior doctors and their trainers have given the south west a high overall satisfaction rating.

“This underlines our commitment ensuring the region has the medical staff it needs to meet the needs of the patients through delivering high-quality post graduate medical training.

“The survey also helps us to identify where we can make further improvements and we will be studying the results closely to look at how we can improve the training experience of junior doctors in the south west.”

The GMC undertakes the survey each year to monitor the quality of medical education and training in the UK.
