The local HHE office and the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) are working in partnership to commission high quality, responsive and innovative education and training for paramedics. HETV has developed an Education Strategy (link) which is focussed upon developing and retaining the Trust’s current and future workforce.
We commission education and training for paramedics, BSc, FdSc and Certificate in Higher Education, fund access programmes to enable existing staff to enter paramedic education and support development of Specialist Paramedic roles. Commissioning activity takes account of recommendations made from the Paramedic Evidence Based Education Project (PEEP) (link).
To support expansion of the SCAS workforce, we have increased the number of education commissions it places for paramedics. A link to our partner HEIs can be found here (link).
As well as increasing education and training opportunities, work is also being undertaken to develop a high quality, responsive learning infrastructure. This will help to assure provision of adequate placement capacity and supply trainee paramedics with opportunities to develop the practical skills needed to deliver high quality care.
