Shine Awards and Annual Conference 2014

Over 200 delegates attended “Breaking Boundaries – New Paradigms in Education and Training” on Thursday 19 June at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton.


The energy at the annual conference in the morning was followed by an afternoon of inspiration and celebration through the Shine Awards. The whole event was extremely well received by everybody.

The Shine Awards 2014

We received over 140 nominations for the first Shine Awards to celebrate excellence in education and training for the NHS.

Inspiring Educator of 2014

This award recognises the people who mentor, supervise or train people “on the job”.  Inspiring educators not only share best practice and new skills, they are role models for their values and attitudes and use every experience as a learning opportunity.

Wonderful Workforce Solution of the Year

This award recognises the teams and individuals who have improved patient care through taking a hard look at who does what in a team, unit, ward, or practice and introduced new roles and/or changed the skills of people in the team.

Chair’s Award of 2014

Jacqueline Swift, DL, Chair of Health Education Wessex made this single award to an eye catching project, which through education and training has made a stand-out contribution to improving patient and service user experience and care.

Winner:
The Portsmouth “Love Your Bones” Team
Led by Stephen Young Min, Consultant Rheumatologist and Colin Beevor, Modern Matron, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust with the National Osteoporosis Society.

Outstanding Learner of the Year

This award was for all learners; students, trainees, apprentices and people undertaking continuing personal and professional development who demonstrated that they understand the importance of good communication, value patient and user experience and consider patients as partners in their own care.

High Performing Education and Training Team of the Year

This award recognises the enormous contribution of people working in and delivering education and training. This team might be a formal team, or a group of people who have come together to deliver a specific initiative.
