Pharmacists Foundation Training
Post graduate diplomas are available to provide underpinning knowledge and support the completion of foundation training.
Foundation training programmes consist of time spent in practice according to the individual's post/placement rotations. These may involve accreditations which are outcome based i.e. not just the acquisition of competencies, but a demonstration that they can be applied in real situations. The programmes usually employ a range of assessment methods within a regular appraisal process to support and measure progress, for example through use of a portfolio.
For pharmacists, this is usually up to a two year programme of structured training incorporating the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Foundation Pharmacy Framework often underpinned by a Postgraduate Diploma programme. In Yorkshire and the Humber, these are commissioned from the University of Bradford and University of Leeds
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society Foundation Programme supports the development of pharmacists in their first 1000 days of practice.
