Innov8: Diversity and Inclusion

Innov8: leading differently for better healthcare aims to increase the diversity of senior leaders and decision makers in the NHS and to grow the capability of leaders at all levels to be more inclusive.

To achieve these aims we work with organisations, teams and individuals to create healthy NHS organisations.


Leading differently for better healthcare

There is significant evidence of the benefits for individuals and organisations of inclusive and diverse leadership in creating healthy successful organisations.

Such organisations build in innovation, resilience and flexibility at every level, they have engaged employees who are included, valued and cared for.

For NHS organisations, this also means making the connection between diversity and inclusion and creating the right culture for quality care.

The premise of Innov8 is that we need to lead differently to achieve this vision and our work is aimed at developing both a diversity of talent and a culture of inclusion in which diversity can thrive.

Research and experience tells us that training alone does not deliver inclusive and diverse leaders.  Since our launch in June 2010, we have taken a ‘whole systems’ approach and have invested in a range of work that brings important change makers together.

These include different leaders’, current senior leaders, OD and leadership colleagues, diversity professionals, talent management professionals and aspiring future NHS leaders.

NEW for October 2016

The Resourceful and Resilient Change Makers Development Programme has been initiated as a direct result of the recommendations emerging from the June 2016 Innov8 report - Creating Healthy Organisations

A key recommendation of the focus group report is that diversity and inclusion practitioners should work as a team alongside HR, OD and L&D practitioners.  As a collective this team should have shared responsibility for delivering the desired culture change.  It is understood that to achieve this aim the requirements of all practitioners is considerable.  Therefore as a way of supporting the development of this group, the Yorkshire and the Humber Leadership Academy have commissioned the delivery of a bespoke development programme.

Who is this programme aimed at?

The Resourceful and Resilient Change Makers programme is aimed at anyone who has responsibility either explicitly or implicitly for promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.  This can include practitioners from the diversity, inclusion, equalities, HR, OD, workforce planning, learning and development and communications functions.
