i-Lead Alliance

We have launched a new support and development resource for organisations and individual leaders to create cultures where all staff can thrive and realise their potential and where inclusive leadership is valued and rewarded.


Session on 3 March 2016

The most recent i-Lead network meeting took place 3 March 2016 at Novotel, Whitehall Quay, Leeds.

The event looked at how staff networks can play a vital role in creating inclusive workplaces and services and share recent work at a national and local level to illustrate this.  Participants took away practical ideas and support on how to introduce or strengthen staff networks with purpose in their own organisations.

Meet the hosts

 

Beverley Powell

 

Beverley Powell is an experienced equality and diversity professional and the winner of multiple national awards for her contributions towards equality, diversity and inclusion.  Her 15-year career has encompassed both the public and private sectors and her outstanding leadership has led to strategic outcomes for a range of organisations.  Read Beverley's biography here.

Karl Portz

 

Karl Portz, MSc, is an equality and diversity practitioner working for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. He introduced the diversity and inclusion model to an operational ambulance service using the Equality Delivery System as a key framework.  Some current work he is involved in is supporting the implementation of the NHS Workforce Race Equality Standard and engaging with seldom heard communities to address some of their health inequalities.

He has 29 years of experience in the ambulance service, which ranges from working as a frontline paramedic to managing operational staff.  Read Karl's biography here.

Rasheed Ogunlaru

 

National facilitator Rasheed Ogunlaru will be travelling up from London to facilitate the first part of the day: Networking for Success.

Rasheed is an inspiring and empowering public speaker and seminar leader – popular on the business, spiritual and personal development circuits. He is a qualified member of The Coaching Academy (for whom he has also served as an external trainer). He is also trained in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and is former Co-Director of Samaritans (Central London). His career spans over 16 years in coaching, training, media, performance and organisational strategy.  

He will cover the first part of the session and discuss the theory, how to and  benefits, with top tips for attendees to take away with them.

About the iLead programme

Provided in response to the areas identified in an Executive Round Table event in September 2014 and the issues Innov8 has identified during our work, whether you have been involved in previous Innov8 work or not this is an excellent starting point for support and collaboration with your peers and the i-Lead partners.

The i-Lead Alliance is a one year partnership between the Yorkshire and the Humber Leadership Academy (Innov8) Business in the Community and their two internationally recognised campaigns Race for Health andOpportunity Now and a number of other contributing experts from industry.

The Alliance convened days across 2015/16 with each one day session built around one of the 5 points of the Inclusive Workplace Framework and is designed to take organisations through the Framework to achieve improvements relevant to your specific organisation while also looking at general development needs we might all share.

Launch Update

The launch event held on 15th May 2015 in Leeds was well attended by colleagues from across the region and the outputs from the day and workshop slides have been shared with participants directly.

 

Invitation to join the i-Lead Alliance

We invite all diversity and inclusion leads, HR, leadership and organisational development leads, anyone with a responsibility for talent management and workforce planning leads in the NHS in Yorkshire and the Humber to take part.

We also invite organisations to take part as members, including access to full membership benefits. To become a member organisation (free of charge) requires agreement at Board level to join an agreed change improvement programme for the year. Please contact Andrea Overton if you are interested in becoming a member organisation.
