Be the GP of tomorrow - Applications now open for GP specialty training

31 March 2016

Foundation doctors and medical students are being encouraged to choose GP as their specialty as the new application window for training is now open.

Professor Wendy Reid, Director of Education and Quality and Medical Director, Health Education England (HEE) said:

GPs are at the heart of the NHS and the first experience many people have of the NHS is with their GP. It is a challenging role but one that provides a great opportunity to play a key role in meeting the health needs of diverse communities right across the UK.

Don’t just take our word for it, find out the views of practising GPs from across the country who have shared their own experiences and thoughts about what being a GP means to them like Shrewsbury based GP, Dr Duncan Shrewsbury - who says:

Being a GP allows me to be a consistent part of my patients lives. I’m their doctor, and a small part of me belongs to them. In exchange, they give me their trust. It’s very rewarding.

Professor Wendy Reid has also welcomed a letter from Professor Maureen Baker, Royal College of General Practitioners Chair who urges Foundation Doctors to take up GP training.

Specialty recruitment applications are open until 4pm Thursday 7 April 2016
