Supporting doctors in training with special circumstances
We want to ensure that every doctor has the best chance of success. Our special circumstances (UK wide) process ensures applicants who have a condition that requires follow up in a specific location, or are primary carer for someone who is disabled, are supported and treated fairly and consistently. Here are some tips and reminders to support trainees through the process.
What is it?
We want every doctor to have the best chance of success. This process ensures applicants are supported and treated fairly and consistently.
Am I eligible to apply?
Yes, if you have a condition that requires follow up in a specific location, or you are primary carer for someone who is disabled.
How many applications does HEE approve?
We are approving an increasing number - 70% so far this year.
How do I increase my approval chances?
Take extra care to give us everything we need. The most common reason for lack of approval is because necessary evidence isn’t provided.
What if my application isn’t approved?
You will be told why precisely and what new evidence may help you appeal, something all applicants can do. It is in the NHS’s interests you succeed so we want to help.
