Call for NHS Ambassadors to inspire young people

13 September 2021

Health and care professionals are being asked to sign up as NHS Ambassadors to volunteer their time sharing their experiences of work with young people and inspiring them to pursue a career in health and care.

Through the Inspiring the Future initiative, our NHS Ambassadors have interacted with 400,000 young people in the last two years, educating them in the vast range of careers in health and care by sharing their experiences. Even throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic, virtual sessions were set up to replace the usual in-person events.

Daniel Duffield, Emergency Medical Technician with West Midlands Ambulance Service and NHS Ambassador, said:

“It’s so satisfying, I’ve had kids come up to me after events have finished thanking me for informing them that there are options available, that’s really rewarding.”

The good work of Inspiring the Future, which is a collaboration between NHS Health Education England and the charity Education and Employers, has now been recognized by the Charity Times after it nominated the initiative for an award under the category, Collaboration of the Year at its annual awards event.

Natasha Davies, Head of Volunteering – The National Volunteering Unit at NHS Health Education England, said:

“We are extremely proud to have been nominated for this award and it is testament to all the fantastic work our NHS Ambassadors do. I would also like to say a massive well done and thank you to our amazing NHS Ambassadors for inspiring the next generation of health and care professionals.”

Could you be an NHS Ambassador? Health Education England is asking health and care professionals to consider volunteering a small amount of their time to become NHS Ambassadors and take part in its Inspiring the Futures initiative.
