Health Education England announces new Chief Executive as Dr Navina Evans

HEE is pleased to announce it has appointed, after a rigorous interview process, Dr Navina Evans as its new Chief Executive. Dr Evans currently works for East London Foundation Trust (ELFT) and will begin a phased introduction to HEE commencing on the 1st April, moving to the full time post in October 2020. Dr Evans will be replacing Professor Ian Cumming who is leaving HEE after eight years of leading the NHS’s education and training organisation.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of  Dr Navina Evans as the next Chief Executive of HEE. In a rigorous and competitive selection process Navina showed she has the track record , experience , skills and values to take HEE forward and ensure that ,with our partners , we educate and train the health care workforce for the future.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian for all his work over the last 8 years leading HEE and wish him well for his future”

Professor Ian Cumming, Current Chief Executive, Health Education England said:

“While I will miss HEE and the fantastic team of dedicated people I have had the pleasure of working with in the last eight years, I am very pleased to be handing over to Navina, who is a highly competent and qualified clinician and manager, and understands the central importance of education and training in delivering high quality health care to patients. “

Dr Navina Evans said:

'I am proud to be joining my new colleagues in HEE at a time when caring for and developing  our health and care staff is of greatest importance. I look forward to working with them to develop the skilled, responsive and compassionate workforce of the future.

'Whilst I am sad to be leaving my fantastic friends in East London Foundation Trust, I will continue to follow them with joy as they always strive to improve the quality of life for all they serve.'

Dr Navina Evans biog

Navina had been working for ELFT for the past 25 years. She started her career as a psychiatrist, progressing to consultant psychiatrist before taking on management responsibilities. She worked her way up to clinical director and had responsibilities around medical education and training. Unusually, as a clinician, Navina took on the role of chief operating officer and deputy chief executive, before becoming ELFT’s chief executive in August 2016. More info
