HEE response to latest GMC training survey results

4 July 2017

Professor Wendy Reid, Director of Education and Quality, Medical Director, said:

Listening to the concerns of junior doctors is a key part of the work of Health Education England to continuously improve postgraduate medical training.  HEE welcomes the information in the GMC national survey.

The issue of rota gaps, which has been flagged in the report, is a concern to HEE. More doctors than ever are entering training programmes, and having a fulfilling career includes having flexibility in working. HEE is working with the wider NHS to ensure that the rotas which rely on non-training doctors are properly recruited to, so that those in training programmes are not disadvantaged.

HEE is committed to improving the quality of education and training for doctors, and making sure that they feel valued and supported, and we are taking this forward through a number of workstreams including one focussed on improving their working lives.
