HEE training scheme for general practice nurses wins award recognition

2 September 2020

Health Education England’s General Practice Nurse Specialty Training programme has been shortlisted for a national award.

The innovative scheme is among finalists for the Health Service Journal’s Value Awards in the category for System or Commissioner Led Service Redesign Initiative.

The programme was set up to address the difficulties registered nurses can encounter when trying to embark on a career in general practice and provides them with valuable training experience.

One participant, general practice nurse Bronwyn Hind, said: “The GPN specialty training opened a door I didn’t think I’d have the opportunity to step through.”

The salaries of nurses during their specialty training period and the cost of their training are being funded jointly by Health Education England, NHS England & NHS Improvement and the local Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP).

The award winners will be announced on Friday, 4 September. Further details about the General Practice Nurse Specialty Training programme can be found here:-
