A new animation and guide on how to access study budgets has been launched by Health Education England (HEE) today.
This is part of the changes HEE are making to ensure the system is fairer and more consistent across the country.
HEE have moved away from a ‘notional individual annual allocation’ of study budget funding, to one that can be tailored to a doctor’s individual educational needs.
The changes have been introduced after doctors in training highlighted their frustration with the process for accessing their study budget. There were inconsistencies with access between specialties and locations, and in many cases doctors in training paid for educational activity themselves.
The changes were developed through consultation with trainees, their representative bodies, medical Royal Colleges, Specialty Advisory Committees and Faculties.
This forms part of HEE’s programme of work to improve and enhance the working lives of doctors in training by making sure they have access to a supportive, high quality learning environment for all doctors in training, regardless of their personal circumstances.
We’ve reformed the study budget system for doctors in training, aiming to ensure that access to educational resources is fair, based on individual need, and that the process promotes higher quality, more efficiency, flexibility and transparency.
