New resources from Health Education England will promote health in prisons

6 July 2022

Libraries at 120 prisons are set to benefit for the first time from books and digital health resources provided by HEE and the Reading Agency, working in partnership.

Prison services are being included for the first time in the 2022 Your Health Collection, which will be rolled out to more than 300 NHS trust and prison libraries.

This year the collection focusses on general health, including topics such as dealing with stress, better mental wellbeing, the menopause and men’s health.

Funded by HEE, ten book titles and 30 digital sources – including videos, podcasts and other material – have been selected for distribution.

NHS and prison staff will be able to use the resources to help their patients, their friends and families and themselves.

Sue Lacey Bryant, HEE’s Chief Knowledge Officer, said: “With resources such as this fantastic collection, we can help a broad range of people to think about their health and wellbeing. We hope it will increase people’s confidence to engage with health and care professionals.”

She added: “Partnerships such as we have built with the Reading Agency mean we can tap into their engagement expertise to make sure we are funding the right information, in the right format, for people to use and understand.”
