North West Placement Charter Launched

17 June 2013

During the week of 10 June 2013, Health Education North West (HENW) launched its Placement Charter committing to providing safe and high quality learning environments for all health and social care learners on placement in all healthcare organisations in the North West. Building on HENW’s commitment to excellence and on the Apprenticeship and Dignity Promises, the Charter was developed as part of a region wide ‘Clinical Placement Strategy’ with learners from different health and social care professions, service users and carers, and health and social care professionals.

The Charter has been developed around the NHS Constitution, and the shared values that inspire excellence in patient care. The premise within the Charter is that excellence in the delivery of health and social care is underpinned by a commitment to providing a safe, supportive and caring environment for all patients and staff…. and excellence in placement learning is underpinned by a safe, supportive and caring learning environment for all health and social care learners. The pledges in the Charter therefore reflect HENW’s commitment to achieving excellence in learning and care.

Monitoring of the Charter will be through Learning and Development Agreements in place with all healthcare providers in the region, and will include feedback from learners, staff and patients to ensure adherence to the pledges and commitments within it.

All Healthcare Providers and Higher Education Institutions are displaying the Charter during the week of 10th June 2013 to present the organisation’s commitment to the Pledges stated, and to answer any questions raised by members of the public, staff or students.
