Transparency is key in new education funding guide published today

23 November 2020

Health Education England has today published for the first time its NHS Education Funding Guide that sets out what funding HEE provides to support the training of health care professionals.

It is a resource for all those who receive HEE funding and is intended to:

  • help wider understanding of HEE’s role in the funding of education and training;
  • highlight the profile and transparency of HEE’s funding offer; and
  • support our partners to plan effectively and identify how we can refine our approach to funding.

This NHS Education Funding Guide describes HEE’s funding to learners, educational institutions, employers and placement providers to support the education and training of professional roles for the 2020 – 2021 financial year. This will be revised and republished annually and will accompany the Department of Health and Social Care’s Education & Training Tariff guidance, also published annually.

Calum Pallister, Director of Finance, Health Education England said:

“We are publishing this guide to increase transparency and understanding of the funding we provide for education and training to support the development of the future NHS workforce through our annual budget, which is over £4.2 billion.

We will continue to work closely with colleagues in NHS England & NHS Improvement, the wider NHS community and partners to improve the way we currently spend our money and we are committed to providing transparency about the education and training funding we provide.
