Nursing associate curriculum framework

31 October 2016

Professor Lisa Bayliss-Pratt, Director of Nursing & Deputy Director of Education and Quality said:

The curriculum framework for the nursing associate role is being developed in partnership with Skills for Health and Skills for Care and is a guide for education providers to ensure they provide what the NHS needs within their offer.

We are developing this framework as a result of wide consultation across the health and education systems, listening and responding to their needs to ensure this role plays a key part in a multi-disciplinary team that focuses on quality of care.

HEE’s response to the consultation makes clear that this new role will support registered nurses and employers are expecting to deploy them as such.

This nursing associate role will be a key part of a contemporary multidisciplinary workforce and it has widespread support across health and care which is why so many organisations put in bids to be part of the pilot sites that HEE has agreed to double the number of places.

Regulation

Our consultation showed strong support for regulation of the role and it is something that we agree with.

We are now waiting to see if there is agreement on this position from the Department of Health and are expecting a decision shortly.
