North east faculty of patient safety

The faculty of patient safety, under the guidance of the postgraduate dean, will work across the region to lead and facilitate the delivery of patient safety via the Patient Safety Agenda, in order to contribute towards the delivery of high quality compassionate patient care. It will work with other agencies such as the Patient Safety Collaborative and HEE’s patient safety work stream.

The faculty will pull together experience and knowledge of human factors, its impact on clinical quality, the value of simulation, knowledge of regional services and networks, such as mortality and morbidity groups and their links and national initiatives in this area. It will deliver education based on the needs of our patients as well as curriculum requirements in order to improve local patient care.

For example, septicaemia and acute kidney injury are two of the areas it will work on. The faculty will work collaboratively with clinical colleagues from all professional groups and University colleagues in a multi-disciplinary, multi-professional approach to recognise all factors affecting patient safety and to develop and deliver improvements to education, patient care, fostering innovation and sharing best practice.
