All NHS staff and students on placement are entitled to access a large network of high quality library resources completely free of charge.

As a member of your NHS library you can:

  • Access libraries in your local network
  • Access a wide range of web based electronic resources such as online books and journals and health databases.
  • Support your own education and training, CPD, revalidation, research, evidence based practice or language, literacy and numeracy skills.

How do I access my local NHS libraries?

  1. First register with your trust library – check the library list below to find yours or download the list of libraries by place. 
  2. Registration is easy and free – call or email your local library for information on how to register with them and for full details of library services available to you across the region.

How do I access online library resources?

As a member of NHS you are able to access a huge range of online resources such as books, journals and health databases. To access the full range of resources available you need to register for an “OpenAthens” account. In addition, all libraries have information on either their trust intranet or internet pages.

NHS employees can also use library services at the universities in the north east.
