Developing an understanding of a growing sector of practice

Saran qualified a few years ago and is now a designated supervisor for trainees in general practice. Find out how her experience of training in a GP surgery helped her build her knowledge, prepared her for exams and has impacted her long term career.

The NHS Long Term Plan sets out an ambition to have a large workforce of pharmacy professionals working alongside the multidisciplinary team in general practice as part of the emerging primary care networks. Undertaking a significant portion of your foundation training in general practice will help you to understand these developments as well as increasing your knowledge, skills and competence in this area of practice. These placements will make you better placed to work in general practice as part of your future career.

“It’s a really good opportunity to see what [general practice] is about and see if it’s anything you would be interested in...  It’s really good for learning what needs to go in [discharge letters and TTOs] and what is helpful from the GP side.”
