Making every contact count

In April 2017 the Academy facilitated a pan-London MECC challenger event with approximately 60 attendees, which helped to support a pan-London, multi-agency, MECC steering group led by Healthy London Partnership to agree model and a ‘do once’ for London approach.

In February 2018 the Academy commissioned London South Bank University to develop a programme to build capability across London and KSS for planning and evaluating MECC programmes, building knowledge and supporting skills acquisition in:

  • Application of Theory of Change and Logic Modelling
  • Literature search and critical appraisal
  • Evaluation of complex interventions

The programme enabled collaborative exploration of common assumptions about MECC outcomes and the gaps in the evidence base. It supported participants to apply the national MECC evaluation framework to MECC programmes in London and KSS to help implementation and to maximise the effectiveness of programmes at scale and to ensure value for money.

This learning took place between March 2018 and September 2018 and the outputs of the programme will also help inform a refresh of the national evaluation guidance.
