Multiprofessional Preceptorship

Is there scope for organisations to merge the relevant sections from nursing, midwifery and AHP’s or would this devalue the frameworks?

Although aligned with the nursing and midwifery preceptorship frameworks as appropriate, the AHP Preceptorship Standards and Framework has been developed through research and engagement specifically with the aim of identifying what works for AHPs.

Therefore, the AHP Standards and Framework should be used in conjunction with the nursing and midwifery framework in organisations.

Is this in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) guidance and the nursing and midwifery frameworks?

Preceptorship is a workforce intervention that can benefit all health care professionals. The Nursing and Midwifery Council published their Principles for Preceptorship in 2022 with the national nursing preceptorship framework produced in October 2022 and the national midwifery preceptorship framework produced in March 2023. The three preceptorship frameworks are relatable to one another, however there are specific elements which mean that preceptorship for AHPs has unique considerations.

Further information can be found here.

Are there plans to do the same research for preceptorship for biomedical/healthcare scientists?

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Principles for Preceptorship are designed to support all professionals registered with the HCPC to access preceptorship when and where they need it, to support them at key transition moments in their careers, and to help them in providing safe, compassionate and high-quality care.

Any queries on preceptorship for healthcare scientists should be directed to the Office of the Chief Scientific Officer at NHS England - england.cso@nhs.net.
