Accelerated return to training

30 November 2016

Health Education England is working with partners across the system looking at innovative approaches to support doctors who take time out of training due to, for example, caring responsibilities.

The Secretary of State for Health has confirmed today we will be receiving £10 million in funding to implement this work.

The approach would include targeted initiatives to ensure the person who has taken time out is confident and ready to resume their training.

To be clear these arrangements will not disadvantage a junior doctor who does not take time out of training.

Professor Wendy Reid, Director of Education and Quality and Medical Director, Health Education England said:

We welcome the commitment to support doctors returning from time out of training and will work with partners to develop a range of initiatives to provide opportunities to ensure these doctors are fully prepared to resume their training.
