Additional notice on placements and rotas for junior doctors

15 November 2016

Postgraduate medical and dental students will benefit from an extra four weeks’ notice on placement and rotas.

The enhanced notice period follows changes to the Code of Practice led by Health Education England (HEE).

HEE, together with the British Medical Association and NHS Employers, have refreshed guidance that includes a commitment to providing trainee placement information a minimum of 12 weeks in advance and to make sure rotas are shared a minimum of 8 weeks before the trainee start date

The Code of Practice sets out the agreed information that recruiting organisations and employers should provide to doctors and dentists in training at each stage of the recruitment process.

The changes form part of a programme of work HEE is leading to help support junior doctors and enhance their training experience.
