CEPN pharmacy project success

23 June 2016

Our CEPN pharmacy project won the training and development award at the 2016 Chemist and Druggist awards held on 15 June.

The project established a scheme that organised and fully evaluated placements of pre-registration pharmacists into GP practices, which resulted in improved communications between the two professions, as well as a better understanding of the expertise they can each offer to patients. The pharmacists involved – drawn from a wide range of pharmacy businesses across Kent, Surrey and Sussex – were able to forge closer links with GP practices and there is now a group of newly qualified pharmacists who have a deeper understanding of how their GP colleagues operate.

The project, led by Atif Shamim the Primary Care and Community Pharmacy lead for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex team, has now been expanded to 12 pharmacy and GP trainees across north central and east London and there are plans to roll it out further this year.
