East of England primary care incubator

2 August 2016

Our first East of England Primary Care Incubator Meeting was held on 23 June 2016 to discuss how the Eastern Academic Health Science Network (EASHN) could support HEE’s current primary care workforce initiatives in the east of England.

The Managing Director for EASHN, Dr Steve Feast, discussed the current challenges faced by primary care and Prof. Martin Roland outlined the GP Forward view. There were also presentations from Nav Chana, Chairman of the National Association of Primary Care, who discussed Collaborative Care Models along with Neil Modha who described initiatives in the Peterborough area. Opportunities and challenges for primary care organisations leading system change were also discussed in the meeting.

The EASHN has made available resources for a select number of practices, federations and CEPNs to support new innovative primary care projects and interested groups were invited to apply for these development funds.

For more information on the content and topics discussed contact Community Schools or EAHSN.

Who are EAHSN?

Eastern Academic Health Science Network is one of 15 health networks (AHSNs) set up to spread innovation at pace and scale across the healthcare system – in order to achieve the ultimate goals of both improving health and generating economic growth.

AHSNs are the only body that connects all partners across sectors: NHS and academic organisations, local authorities, the third sector and industry. They are catalysts that work to create the right conditions to facilitate change across whole health and social care economies, improving outcomes for patients:

  • They spread innovation at pace and scale to achieve their twin goals of improving health and generating economic growth.
  • They deliver benefits to their members - and therefore citizens and patients - by creating productive partnerships between the NHS and industry, academia and social care.
  • They are supporting the NHS to deliver a step-change in the rapid identification, adoption and spread of best practice, clinical innovations and new technologies to meet the challenges set out in the Five Year Forward View.
  • They enable companies to grow and create jobs by helping the NHS and industry engage more productively, focused on proven innovations that meet defined local needs.

There are 15 AHSNs nationally, established by NHS England in 2013. For more information visit the EAHSN website.
