Health Careers website research published

24 April 2017

Recent research shows that existing and potential new users of the Health Careers website like the professional look and feel, and find it useful in helping them take the next steps in their career decision-making.

The comprehensive Health Careers website has been live since October 2015 and the team behind it continually welcome feedback. Extensive research was carried out during December 2016 and January 2017 to find out what users think about the site and any improvements they'd like to see.

Survey

An online survey was devised which included questions for potential and actual users. More than 800 responses came in from students, those in health-related employment, and those who advise these groups.

Recommendations

While there’s always room for improvement, those who responded were very positive about the website. The resulting report makes clear people think the site should continue to provide career-related information to those considering, studying towards or working in a health-related career, and sets out a range of recommendations:

  • The site should continue to be promoted to prospective and current students and those already employed in the health sector
  • Detailed survey responses should be reviewed periodically as part of ongoing content and functionality developments
  • The site should be developed to make career development information more accessible from the specific role pages
  • The website needs more information on apprenticeship pathways and the roles achievable through them
  • The benefits of registering on the site could be better highlighted.
