HEE help sees Derby open new simulated learning facility

21 November 2016

The University of Derby recently opened a new diagnostic imaging facility for simulated learning, which we have supported with the purchase of some of the equipment.

The state of the art facility includes the latest in imaging technology, including a revolutionary ScanTrainer simulator. This allows the user to attempt virtual scenarios in areas such as general medical, gynaecology, obstetrics, and emergency medicine, to hone and develop their scanning skills while guided by the virtual ScanTrainer expert. The user is finally assessed and feedback provided indicates which tasks have been passed and which have not.

This gives the learner experience prior to joining healthcare teams, and requires less time in the clinical environment to learn the basic skills. It also can be used by existing clinicians who may want to learn new skills and focus on certain specialist areas.
