HEE reassures overseas healthcare staff, trainees and students

27 June 2016

Professor Ian Cumming, Chief Executive of Health Education England, said:

The NHS has always needed to supplement its UK trained staff with people from across the globe.  We are proud of this tradition and of HEE’s role in supporting this.  It is understandable that some overseas staff, trainees and students might feel concerned at this time about the impact of the referendum outcome that Britain should leave the EU.

HEE will support all efforts to ensure that overseas citizens working here will be supported and enabled to remain living, working and training in the UK.  We will also continue to do all that we can to ensure that all staff and trainees – irrespective of their nationality – are protected from all forms of bullying, harassment or racism.

HEE supports the view that the delivery of high quality care is dependent on a workforce that feels valued and secure and we would like to reassure overseas staff, trainees and students that their dedication and their contribution will continue to be valued and appreciated by employers and – most importantly – the patients that use our services
