HEE response to CMO annual report on genomics

Professor Ian Cumming, Chief Executive, Health Education England said:

Health Education England has been a champion of genomics and improving the genomic literacy of the NHS workforce since our inception. 

England is a world leader in the field of medical genomics, both in research and clinical applications. HEE have produced educational pathways and materials that will ensure that the NHS workforce are equipped to meet the changing needs of delivering healthcare in the future. 

I warmly welcome this timely report by Dame Sally Davies into genomics, and are fully supportive of the recommendations included. We look forward to working with partners in ensuring they are implemented in full.

HEE has developed a career pathway for Bioinformaticians to obtain Health and Care Professions Council registration. We have also seen great take up in our Masters in Genomics Medicine (MMed) and will continue to support the workforce of  today to ensure patients have access to the best possible care now and in the future.
