London lead provider review completed

12 October 2017

From 2011, some of the responsibilities in delivering postgraduate medical and dental education across London were shared by eight lead providers. A review was then carried out in April 2016, when it was agreed that the functions previously delivered by these lead providers would move to Health Education England (HEE).

We are pleased to confirm that the project tasked with managing this programme of work has come to a successful conclusion and the following milestones were achieved:

  1. All Programme Directors involved in regional training activities have been seconded to Health Education England. This provides a strong governance structure, with implementation of agreed development programmes.
  2. A return of administrative support functions to the Health Education Team in HEE’s London and South East region, with utilisation of stream-lined, automated processes regarding the coordination of regional training wherever possible.
  3. A system of Education Provider Networks (EPNs) using existing support mechanisms are being implemented  to enable development of added-value, innovation, and the sharing of best practice in postgraduate medical and dental education within an ever-increasingly inter-disciplinary environment.
