Mental health taskforce implementation plan

Commenting on the Mental Health Taskforce Implementation Plan released on 19 July, Professor Ian Cumming, Chief Executive, Health Education England said:

HEE welcomes this plan and we have been working closely with partners to train and shape the NHS workforce to deliver service change and improve outcomes for patients, developing and maintaining a workforce with the skills to meet the on-going needs of patients.

All health professionals need to have an understanding of mental health conditions, so we have developed training programmes that will enable health and care employers to ensure that all staff have an awareness of mental health problems and how they may affect their patients. These programmes include an awareness of the links between patients’ mental and physical health and the impact of related conditions and the actions they can take to ensure that patients receive appropriate support.

We will work closely with our partners to deliver this comprehensive programme and ensure that care for patients is provided by the right people with the right skills and values.
