Return to Practice student wins award at City University

23 March 2016

Congratulations to Lucy Hatfull – who has recently completed her Return to Practice programme - on winning an award for High Academic Achievement from City University.

During her time on the programme, Lucy was an excellent role model for mental health nurses and was inspiring and supportive to her peers within her cohort.  She promoted the Student Voice as a Course Member Representative of the Student/Staff Liaison Committee.

Lucy’s supervised practice placement was within North East London Foundation NHS Trust (NELFT) at the Waltham Forest Access and Assessment Team.  The Access and Assessment Team acts as the gateway service to those who may require longer term Mental Health support and Lucy developed the skills and competence by working alongside colleagues to enable her to have her nursing registration re-activated after a break from nursing.

She received positive feedback from her mentors there and is now working as a Band 5 within the team

Lucy said:

It was a pleasure working with a cohort with such a wealth of experience. I learned a lot from students and lecturers alike and would certainly recommend the course to those wishing to return to nursing.

Former NELFT Project Lead, Mercy Wasike, said:

Lucy was focused and worked extremely hard. She identified the opportunity that was available at NELFT and made the most of it! She is an asset to the profession and the people she interacts with on a day-to-day basis.
