London and South East LETBs hold multiprofessional education conference

The “Developing the Multiprofessional Health Educators of the Future” conference, which was planned by the four London and the South East (LaSE) Local Education and Training Boards (LETBs), was held on 7 July 2015 at the Oval conference centre in London. It considered multiple good practice initiatives for interprofessional healthcare educators and students.

The conference was delivered by an integrated LaSE organising committee, which included healthcare scientists, medical clinical fellows, a Nurse Darzi fellow, a Darzi AHP fellow and an HEKSS programme manager.

Professor Ian Cumming, Chief Executive of Health Education England, opened the day. He strongly reiterated the commitment to more multiprofessional training in the future.

HEKSS was well represented and hosted two workshops. Jaci Joyce, HEKSS Programme Manager and Clinical Learning Lead and Carrie Weller, Strategic Education Development Manager from BSUH hosted an interactive workshop about the identification of multidisciplinary training needs along the patient care pathway. Staff from Frimley Health Hospital NHS Trust gave an overview of how medical and non-medical education have been integrated to become clinical education within a new education directorate.

Delegates rated all presentations and workshops very highly. The BSUH Integrated Education & Knowledge Board won first prize in the poster category, and the University of Brighton and BSUH Compassion toolkit presentation was a runner-up in the plenary prize.

An evaluation meeting will be held in August to analyse the feedback received and take action to ensure the lessons learnt inform future developments in London and the south east.
