Reach out for Healthcare Science

29 June 2015

Following its success last year, Reach out for Healthcare Science is running again to provide work experience for 300 Year 10 students in hospitals in June and July 2015. The project went live at Imperial College on the 22nd June, with further intakes at Kings College and University College London due in subsequent weeks.

This project aims to maximise the likelihood of young people from diverse backgrounds entering healthcare science professions whilst minimising service disruption in hospitals. It is a collaborative project aimed at widening participation in healthcare science in the NHS and is funded by the Local Education and Training Boards (LETBs) in London and coordinated through scientific leadership at the Royal Free Hospital. It involves collaboration between three London universities, three NHS trusts, healthcare scientists, Exscitec (a provider of STEM outreach activities for students of all ages) and local schools.

Gary Dakin, Healthcare Science Lead for the LETBs in London said

This exciting programme supports our ambition to widen participation and expose young people to the diverse range of healthcare roles and potential careers. It also promotes access to education and will encourage school students to become part of the future healthcare workforce.
