SCAS opens recruitment centre and says thanks to HEE

18 October 2017

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) formally opened its state-of-the-art education and recruitment centre in Newbury on 17 October 2017 and acknowledged two members of Health Education England staff by naming training rooms in their honour.

The new facility brings three former education centres used by SCAS under one roof, as well as providing additional space for the recruitment team.

The project included the design, development and construction of a simulation suite – the first facility for any ambulance service in Europe. This suite allows new and existing staff to placed inside a range of different training scenarios with responsive, video footage, being projected onto every wall around them.

As a thank you and an acknowledgement to the close working and support from Health Education England, Zoe Scullard, Regional Head for Quality and Commissioning (South) and Helen Bingham, Head of Knowledge Services and Technology Enhanced Learning (South), had training rooms named after them at the centre.

Zoe said:

I was delighted, surprised and honoured to have a classroom at the SCAS Newbury training and Recruitment centre. My team and I at HEE Thames Valley have worked closely with SCAS to support investment in teaching and learning technology and resources. Through joint working HEE and SCAS have utilised innovative approaches to aid recruitment, retention and upskilling of the SCAS workforce. SCAS are a pleasure to work with and I am constantly impressed with their forward thinking attitude and openness to new ways of working.
