New Health Education England advert showcases the flexibility of a career as a GP

8 November 2018

A short advert illustrating how the role of a GP can be varied has been launched by Health Education England to kick off its latest GP trainee recruitment round following another record breaking year of applications.

The film shows the variety that is general practice, highlighting GPs who incorporate special interests into their clinical practice – no day is ever the same.

Professor Simon Gregory, GP Lead, Health Education England said:

There are many reasons why this specialty is an attractive career for doctors who enjoy and want to use their breadth of medical knowledge and continue to develop clinical skills.

I am proud to be a GP. General Practice has been going through a very tough time but together we are building a future that will be a great place to work. Already thousands of GP Specialty Trainees are making the wise choice to become GPs and help shape a brighter and sustainable future.

Our campaign is targeted at Foundation Doctors who are about to choose their specialty and medical students; we want to them to see what a diverse and varied role it is and highlight the positive impact that their work will have on the lives of the people they look after.”

Figures released by Health Education England (HEE) last month revealed the highest ever number of people accepting an offer of GP training in NHS history.

The figure of 3473 meant the annual target of 3250 has been surpassed for the very first time with more than 300 additional trainees successfully choosing specialty training compared to last year, an increase of over ten per cent and a 30% increase since 2014
