HEE welcomes GMC report

27 November 2020

Health Education England welcomes the GMC’s annual The state of medical education and practice in the UK report published today.

Professor Wendy Reid, Executive Director of Education and Quality and Medical Director said:

It has been an unprecedented time in the NHS in the last few months due to the impact of COVID-19 on services, the workforce and of course patients and public. HEE’s teams played their role by helping over 40,000 students and trainees offer their services to support the NHS workforce. We have worked in partnership with NHS England and NHS Improvement, the Department of Health and Social Care, HEIs, employers, professional regulators and other stakeholders including Royal Colleges and Faculties to support the system and our trainees when it was needed the most, showing HEE as an organisation to be nimble and effective in delivering this core task at pace and scale.

The health and wellbeing of the current and future workforce is just as important as their education and training and we are committed to providing the right support with programmes such as the Wellness Induction, Support to disclose need and our local support. Additionally, Wellbeing Guardians and Freedom to Speak Up Guardians ensure our NHS workforce are supported and can deliver safe and effective patient care.
