What support is available?

All GP practices selected to be a part of this programme have a pharmacist working in a patient-facing role. All trainees will therefore have a tutor based in the general practice as well as a tutor based in the employing sector.

Additional support will also be available from the Health Education England pharmacy GP team for supervisors and trainees who are taking part in this programme.

This support includes:

  • An induction event for trainees to discuss expectations, outcomes of the training and the framework for the placements amongst other subjects.
  • A detailed handbook which includes inductions, expectations, assessments and e-portfolio information.
  • Site visits from your regional facilitator.

Ellie Heron, GP trainee pharmacist, Torbay

“It was really nice to have someone visiting who wasn’t part of the trust or part of my immediate training because she was just there to see how I was getting along with it and if I had any concerns or questions … She made it very clear that if anything was concerning me I would be able to contact her about it... Although you are technically more alone because I was the only trainee there, I didn’t really feel like it, it was a really nice supportive network”
