Reporting radiographers
The objective of the Reporting Radiographer project is to help improve access to imaging services for people suspected to have, or affected by, cancer by transforming imaging service skill mix to make better use of the respective specialist knowledge and skills of clinical radiologists and diagnostic radiographers.
The project aims to increase the number of radiographers contributing to image interpretation and reporting within clinical imaging teams.
The benefits of upskilling radiographers in image interpretation and reporting is:
- Frees up radiologists to support earlier diagnosis of cancer
- Supports transformation of imaging services
- Trusts reduce reliance on outsourcing
- Trusts develop existing workforce
- Increased radiographer retention
2022/23 reporting radiographer offer
HEE is offering NHS Trusts a support package consisting of course fee, clinical supervision and training grant per student:
- Course: SCoR approved, M-level programme - e.g. PgCert.
- Supervision: education mentorship, coaching & supervision and provision of protected learning spaces.
- Grant: to support and enable Trusts to release trainees.
Support to be used by employers to support and facilitate trainees completing programmes (at agreed national standards).
HEE working with NHS Trusts and radiography and radiology organisations to continuously improve roll-out.
